You Are Going to Love Jackson Hole! My Favorite Place Ever!

OH MY GOSH! I am so excited for you! You told me you were thinking about a trip, and I am telling you right now: you HAVE to go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Seriously, I went there once for a boring work trip a few years ago and I fell in love. I have been back more than twelve times since then! It is my favorite place in the whole wide world. I’m not even kidding. It is so cool that I just had to write down every single thing you need to do so you don’t miss out on the best stuff.

I know what you’re thinking. “Is it just a bunch of mountains?” Yes! But they are the coolest mountains you will ever see! They don’t have hills at the bottom, they just pop straight up out of the ground like giant jagged teeth. It is so wild. I’m going to tell you exactly where to eat, where to take the best photos for your phone, and how much everything costs so you don’t have to guess. Let’s get into it!

Breakfast: You Need Coffee and Carbs

First things first. When you wake up, head straight to Persephone Bakery. It is this adorable little white building that looks like a toy house. It gets really busy, so get there by 8:00 AM. You need to order the Croque Madame. It is a fancy ham and cheese sandwich with a gooey egg on top. It costs $18. It is messy but so yummy! Also, get a “Dear Jackson” latte for $7. It has honey and sea salt in it and it tastes like a hug in a cup.

Photo Tip: Take your food outside to the little deck. Stand against the white wooden wall with your coffee cup. The light hits that wall perfectly and makes your skin look amazing. Do not forget to take a picture of the bakery sign too, it’s super cute!

The Town Square: Antlers Everywhere!

After breakfast, walk over to the Town Square. You can’t miss it because there are four huge arches made of elk antlers at every corner. There are thousands of antlers! Don’t worry, the elk drop them every year naturally, so no animals were hurt. It’s free to walk through them and it’s the most “Jackson” thing you can do.

Photo Tip: Stand right under the middle of the arch. Have your friend crouch down a little bit to take the picture so the whole arch and the blue sky are in the frame. It looks so cool! Budget $0 for this because it’s totally free to hang out here.

Grand Teton National Park: The Big Show

You have to go into the park. It costs $35 for one car to get in for a whole week. Drive about 20 minutes north of town to Mormon Row. This is where those famous old barns are. You’ve seen them on posters! There is one called the T.A. Moulton Barn. You have to stand about 50 feet back so the barn is in the front and the giant mountains are right behind it. It looks like a painting.

Next, go to Jenny Lake. This is the prettiest lake ever. You can hike around it, but you should pay $20 to take the boat shuttle across the water. It saves your legs! Once you get off the boat, hike up to Hidden Falls. It’s a short walk, maybe 15 minutes. The waterfall is super loud and if you stand close, the mist will spray on your face and feel so fresh. It feels like a giant air conditioner!

The Big Tram Ride

Go over to Teton Village and find the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram. People call it “Big Red.” It’s a giant cable car that holds a bunch of people. It costs $50 to ride, which sounds like a lot, but trust me, it’s worth it. It goes up 4,000 feet in like 9 minutes! Your ears will definitely pop. When you get to the top, it is way colder than at the bottom, so bring a hoodie even if it’s summer.

At the very top, there is a little shack called Corbet’s Cabin. You MUST order the “Gateway” waffle. It has peanut butter and bacon on it. It’s $12. Eating a waffle on top of a mountain is the coolest feeling ever. You can see for miles and miles. You might even see some snow even in July!

Dinner and Saddles

For dinner, you have to go to the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. You have to be 21 to go in because it’s a bar, but they have a restaurant downstairs too. The best part is the bar stools. They are actual leather saddles! It is so funny trying to sit on them while you drink a soda or a beer. A burger here will cost you about $22 and a beer is $8. It’s loud and there’s usually a band playing country music. It feels like you’re in an old Western movie.

Where to Stay and How Much to Spend

Jackson can be really expensive, but you can do it on a budget if you’re smart. If you want to save money, stay at the Mountain Modern Motel. It’s right downtown and it’s really clean and hip. If you want to go all out, stay at the Four Seasons in Teton Village, but be ready to spend a ton of money! Here is a quick breakdown so you can plan your cash.

Price Comparison Table

ItemBudget WayBalling Out Way
Hotel (Per Night)$250 (Mountain Modern)$1,200 (Four Seasons)
Breakfast$12 (Bagel & Coffee)$45 (Buffet at the Lodge)
Lunch$15 (Liberty Burger)$60 (Fancy Bistro)
Activity$35 (National Park Pass)$600 (Private Wildlife Tour)
Dinner$25 (Pizza & Soda)$150 (Snake River Grill Steak)

A Few More Tips

Make sure you look for moose! They like to hang out near the water. If you see a bunch of cars pulled over on the side of the road, that means there is an animal. Stop and look, but don’t get too close! Moose are huge and can be mean if you bother them. Stay at least 25 yards away.

Also, drink a lot of water. Jackson is really high up in the air, and you can get a headache if you don’t drink enough water. I usually carry a big bottle with me everywhere. One more thing: the sun is super strong there! Even if it’s not hot, you will get a sunburn really fast. Wear a hat and put on sunscreen every morning.

I am so jealous that you are going! You are going to have the best time ever. The air smells like pine trees and everything is so pretty. You’re going to want to move there, just watch!
